Lakhi Swain became first golfer from Odisha to win an international title last week in Jakarta, Indonesia. She achieved the success in the 6th Ballantine`s Team Am Golf Challenge that took place at three different courses from September 8 to 10. The title triumph assumed added importance as the 53-year-old veteran lady golfer achieved it on her international debut.
Competing in the ladies` category of the stableford tournament, Lakhi, a member of Bhubaneswar Golf Club, finished at the top of the leaderboard with 97 points. Altogether 220 golfers participated in the amateur tournament.
Lakhi made a shaky start, securing 26 points in the first round at Rancamaya Golf Club. But she put up imperssive performance in the next two rounds at Royale Jakarta Golf Club and Imperial Golf Klub to clinch the title.
